Applications
Application Tips Our original application tips page shown here has now been expanded into an entire series of pages. It is our goal to continue adding more applications information over time to help you find new tips, techniques, and helpful information for using our network and Internet enabled devices.
Here's the "Do It Yourself" guide to monitoring machines via the web. One typical inquiry was, "I want to receive an email when my CNC machine finishes a long job. How do I hook up an embedded server to do that? Oh, there's one catch: My CNC machine is old. Can I just hook up something across one of the lights on the panel?"

You can handle this with any of the Control Solutions embedded servers that have I/O points, including i.Board, i.Board-2, AddMe Jr., and AddMe III.

Power Monitoring
Continental Control Systems' new WattNode MODBUS makes power monitoring via SNMP even easier to set up, and lower cost to own.

The WattNode MODBUS is a kilowatt hour kWh energy and power meter that communicates on a EIA RS-485 network, measures 1, 2, or 3 phases with voltages from 120 to 600 volts alternating current VAC and 5 to 6,000 amps in delta (phase to phase) and wye (phase to neutral) configurations.

Control Solutions' i.Board2 makes all power measurements accessible as SNMP OID's, and you can also configure SNMP traps to be sent on high/low conditions.

Power Monitoring
Combine a WattNode with Babel Buster X2 to create high quality, low cost SNMP based power monitoring. Monitor 3-phase volts, amps, power, power factor, frequency, etc.

Combine WattNode with LogMyData Data Manager for LonWorks to create a web based remote power monitoring package.

If you can write a Basic program, you can put "anything" on the Internet.
Some of our servers include Script Basic. Our port of this compiler/interpreter includes support for opening the RS232/485 serial port as a Basic file. It also includes support for opening a TCP socket as a Basic file. You can actually write a Basic program that will "browse" a remote web site.
If you can write a Basic program, you can put "anything" with a serial port on BACnet IP.
Babel Buster SP Custom also includes the Script Basic compiler/interpreter. This adaptation includes support for opening the RS232/485 serial port as a Basic file. In addition, Basic has access to a full set of BACnet IP objects for presenting its data to the BACnet network. This combination allows adapting any serial device with a proprietary ASCII protocol to BACnet IP.
Control Solutions embedded servers include CGI support to create user HTML "wrapper" pages to customize the look and feel of the product. JavaScript and HTML can be used to create a variety of "live" web page presentations.

In the JavaScript enabled demo shown here, the red and green "lights" will change spontaneously as corresponding physical inputs change.

In the JavaScript enabled demo shown here, the gauge needles move in real time as data changes in i.CanDoIt. This example is based on a purchased JavaScript library.
