How do I change the MS/TP MAC address?
The MAC address in MS/TP is also known as station ID. Changing this is a two-step process. This process sets the station ID or MAC address, the device instance, the max master count, and baud rate all at the same time.
Start by entering the desired parameters in the four boxes illustrated top left in the diagram below. After entering the values, click the Write button to send these to the device. Because it is undesirable to instantly change the identity of the device you are trying to talk to, these parameters are only stored temporarily for subsequent use.
The second step is to enter the "reinit password" in the window shown top right in the diagram below. Changing the device settings requires that you know the password. Enter the password, and click Reinit Device. The device will now save the parameters in non-volatile memory, then restart itself using the new settings. You will need to repeat the "connecting" process to re-establish communication between the config tool and the device.

You need to leave the "New Reinit Password" window blank when making changes to device settings. If you want to change the password, you must be in "init mode". If you are not in "init mode", write access to the password is denied. The method of entering init mode varies slightly by product. Consult the config tool directions for the specific product to see how to enter init mode. Once in init mode, enter the new password on the left, click Write, then enter the old password on the right and click Reinit Device.
