Devices which include the LonWorks port can operate as a managed node on a LonWorks network, or operate as a device manager on a polled unmanaged LonWorks network. When operating in device manager polled mode, LonWorks devices are treated in a manner very similar to Modbus slaves. The device manager will handle up to 50 nodes, with up to 62 network variables each. It should be noted that a practical limit when running in polled mode is about 200 network variables total.

When operating as a managed node, you would use LonMaker (or equivalent) to bind network variables found in AddMe III. The LonWorks port is based on a standard Neuron Chip, and is therefore limited to 62 bindable network variables.

Device management includes capturing the service pin message, wink, get/set network configuration, and importing the XIF file from the device. You can also upload an XIF file to idenify the variables in the device.

You simply check off which network variables you with to map to a register, assign (or auto-allocate) a register number, and set an update time. Variables will be automatically polled at that rate. Incoming data is retrieved at the update rate. Outgoing data is sent upon change, and resent at the update rate.
